AMR Network


On 3rd April 2019 at ICMR Hqrs, New Delhi, ‘Priority setting meeting for research in antimicrobial resistance (AMR)’: AMR priorities in basic research, diagnostics, clinical research, hospital infection prevention and control, veterinary sector and health economics.


On 14th May 2019 at ICMR Hqrs, New Delhi, ‘All Principal Investigators meeting of AMR surveillance network’ was held to evaluate the progress and to address the issues related to surveillance.


On 21st May 2019 at ICMR Hqrs, New Delhi, a meeting on “Regulatory challenges around antibiotic availability in India” was held.


On 8th May 2018 at ICMR Hqrs, New Delhi, a meeting of the principal investigators of all nodal and regional centers was conducted to assess the network progress, draft 2nd edition of SOPs and address the challenges faced by AMR surveillance network.


On 2nd - 4th April 2018, ICMR and CDC organized a national workshop on Antimicrobial susceptibility testing in Bacteriology and Mycology which was conducted by Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. About 90 participants from 48 different institutes, medical colleges and hospitals participated in the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Jagat Ram (Director, PGIMER), Dr Sujit Singh (Director, NCDC), Dr Kamini Walia (AMR Program Officer, ICMR), Dr Daniel Garcia (Senior Lab Advisor, CDC), Prof Arunaloke Chakrabarti, (Head, Dept of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER), and Prof Pallab Ray (Professor, Dept of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER).

On 23rd March 2018 at ICMR Hqrs, New Delhi, a meeting on External Quality Assurance (EQAS) was conducted to ensure the quality assurance and sustainability. Dr V Balaji, Professor, CMC, Vellore presented data and future plan for EQAS for the ICMR’s AMR network.

On 17th November 2017 at ICMR Hqrs, New Delhi, a meeting with representatives from private hospitals and clinical labs was conducted for extension of AMR network. Private hospitals and labs such as Fortis Healthcare, Unitech Business Park, ARTEMIS hospitals, Gurgaon, DGMS (Army), Lal Path Labs, SRL Diagnostics, Max Healthcare, Delhi, Medanta hospital, Gurgaon participated and expressed interest in participating in the AMR surveillance network. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Former Director General, ICMR

Meeting of the principal investigators of all nodal and regional centers was conducted on 8th May 2018 at ICMR Headquarters to assess the progress and address the challenges of the AMR surveillance network.

Dr VC Ohri, Senior Consultant, ICMR, Chaired the meeting and discussed about various issues like data entry, analysis, annual report of AMR data and drafting 2nd edition of SOPs. Dr Kamini Walia, Senior Scientist and Program Officer for AMR, ICMR and all Principal investigators, discussed the progress and gave their suggestions.

Hands-On training in Antimicrobial susceptibility Testing techniques in Bacteriology and Mycology

ICMR and CDC organized a national workshop on Antimicrobial susceptibility testing in Bacteriology and Mycology conducted by Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh on April 2-4, 2018. About 90 participants from 48 different institutes, medical colleges and hospitals participated in the workshop.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Jagat Ram, Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medial Sciences (PGIMER), Dr Sujit Singh, Director, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Kamini Walia, Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), Dr Daniel Garcia, Senior Lab Advisor, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Prof Arunaloke Chakrabarti, Head, Dept of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER, Chandigarh and by Prof Pallab Ray, Professor, Dept of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Meeting of principal investigators for Hospital Infection Control

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in collaboration with CDC and ICMR conducted meeting of principal investigators for “Capacity building and strengthening of hospital infection control to detect and prevent antimicrobial resistance” in India, on 7th and 8th September, 2017 at Ashok Hotel, New Delhi as part OF THE Global Health Security Agenda.
